Age of Madness
Rachel Ana Dobken
Rachel Ana Dobken studied jazz drumming, vocals, theory and guitar at Bard College. She completed her Senior Project in Photography and Music where she composed music around the content of images she photographed. For the Gallery Opening, they played a live concert of the original compositions.
Dobken’s music is raw and honest, personal but relatable. Her stage presence is so emotionally captivating that it’s compared to the likes of Janis Joplin, Jeff Buckley and Levon Helm. The tunes exist somewhere between rock, soul, indie-alt. and jazz. Huge influences that come out in her music: Paul Simon, Jeff Buckley, My Morning Jacket, Patsy Cline meets King Krule meets Lady Lamb meets… well, you decide.
In June of 2016 Rachel Ana Dobken released her debut EP, "Detach." It features Rachel (songwriter, producer, arranger…drums, guitar, vocals), Ryan MacLean (guitar, drums, vocals), Luke McCrosson (bass), and Sam Sherman (piano, B3 Hammond, vocals). They recorded everything in two days alongside engineer Kyle Joseph.
"Dobken blends an intoxicating concoction of jazzy soulfulness and indie rock janglyness that calls to mind the earlier work of St. Vincent and the more recent output of Fiona Apple....Detach is equal parts heart, soul, and brain, presenting a formula that will serve her well for years to come.”
